Courtney Baker is one talented friend of mine. As she’s getting married this weekend, it’s fantastic timing to begin releasing some new work to celebrate! Recently, Courtney created a couple of looks for entry in a competition for the Brisbane Hair and Beauty Expo. Working with our girl Fi Henley (who also happens to be an amazing hairdresser, fitness competitor and sometimes model for her odd friends), Court chose Earth from the theme set by the BHBE.
As the elements are a fairly traditional theme to work with, the challenge lies in creating something new. On choosing Earth, Court said, “I really wanted to do something with an Australian influence, using the red tones of our outback. I wanted to be able to see the texture, and play mudpies!”
Fi braved a particularly chilly day, next to a heater covered in blankets, while Courtney worked with texture.
“I knew I wanted to make her look gaunt, so I chiselled out the hollows of her face. I used a red powder, which gave a dry look. Using face masks and face paint, I coated Fi’s neck and hairline. Though I did use a brush, it was more a finger painting texture. I wanted to build on the initial look, drawing inspiration from Fi’s hair, and bringing her hands into the images. I was initially tempted by a cement look, but knew that I wanted it to be wet first, and let the texture dry.”
Courtney’s Air counterpart will be published in the not too distant future, so keep your eyes peeled!
